Description

Solar season opening image: a 28 subframe mosaic of our nearest star in hydrogen alpha. This was recorded in 19th of May between 11:25 and 11:45 from our apartment's asphalt parking lot (not not really the best location thinking thermals).

I used my trusted equipment of a 102 mm f/7 ED double OTA, an 11 year-old Quark and ASI174mm. Exposure time was 5.3 ms, gain 125 (31 %) and I recorded 20 sec videos at around 161 FPS. All of this resulted in 197 GB of data.

Autostakkert4! was used for stacking the videos with flats, best 400 frames were put into each subframe stack and then ImPPG was used for initial processing. Mosaic and processing were made in Photoshop where I also sharpened the image with USM and high pass filters to the final status and added colors.

In May we have fairly good seeing which surely helped also with this one. Its good to start the season with this, hopefully more imaging sessions are available this year than there was in 2023.
